Coaching supervision
Reflect on your own coaching practice to further develop and improve the quality of your coaching capabilities. Revisit best practice and explore particular challenges your are facing as a coach.
As coaches, we all recognise the value in our practice, in providing a supportive environment in which, with our guidance, executives can develop their own leadership and coaching style.
It’s important however to check in on a regular basis, to ensure we continue to adhere to our industry’s code of practice, and to give ourselves the opportunity to reflect on our work. In fact, coaching supervision is required as part of the Global Code of Conduct for coaches and mentors.
I offer coaching supervision sessions designed to give you the opportunity to focus on your own development, to reflect, and learn from your experiences. We take time to examine your thinking, practices and behaviours as part of your continuous professional development.
Rather than approaching this as a necessary part of your safe practice, something you have to do, our sessions will bring fresh thinking and perspective, and a chance for you to grow professionally – think of it as investing in yourself.
Leadership Coach
Here are some of the benefits you can expect from our coaching supervision sessions which provide an opportunity to:
- Focus on quality control and reinforce good practice
- Reduce any risk to you or the organisations and individuals that you work with
- Discuss particular challenges that you are facing as a coach
- Reflect on your own coaching and communication style
- Talk about issues, have a sounding board, and receive support if needed
- Improve your own performance and personal impact as a professional coach
Building on your strengths
My intention as a supervisor is to enable you to be all you can be as a coach and help you with your practice. The ICF Board has adopted the position of “strongly encouraging” supervision and say: “Coaching Supervision is a collaborative learning practice to continually build the capacity of the coach through reflective dialogue for the benefit of both coaches and clients”.
I like the essence of this as it captures the process of coaching supervision neatly, in a nutshell. We will agree goals per session for your supervision based on what you bring to it. Confidentiality is assured, and although I am not suggesting we draw up a supervision contract as such, it may be something you will want to do.
We can agree length and frequency of sessions when we meet, and this may depend on the number of coaching hours you currently carry out, and on the length of time you have been practicing as a coach.
