The 4 steps to Coaching individuals

My work is guided by the principles of the GROW coaching model, a 4-step process that has been used extensively in both sport and business. I also draw on a range of other coaching methods as appropriate, using techniques that I feel will deliver rapid and lasting impact.

  • Identify areas for focus

    Firstly, we talk through your present challenges to establish which areas require focus and work. We gain clarity on your goals, explore what might be getting in the way and agree actions that will help you achieve specific clear and measurable objectives. Goal
  • Unpick the issues you face

    This model of coaching is not rigid – it’s a conversation designed to help you discover, unlearn and become more open to thinking differently. We explore your current reality to unpick what is going on for you and what might be getting in the way or holding you back.

    We will examine your beliefs, feelings and intuition to help discover what's bothering or stimulating you, all the time raising your self-awareness. This is where you gain powerful ideas and insights and will learn about yourself. Reality
  • Focus on the outcomes

    This part of the process helps you visualise how you would like things to be in the future. We brainstorm as many ideas as possible. Exploring various possibilities, we then focus on the ones you are drawn to and look at possible solutions and how to execute them. Options
  • Draw up a plan for action

    Coaching is about change and learning. You choose the actions you are committed to, checking they fit with your goals. The coaching process is about arriving at this point, where you take action and responsibility for making change happen.
