Coaching – where we begin

My approach to executive coaching is based on many years of experience about what lies at the root of great personal change. It all starts with mindset and attitude. Aligned with methods used to prepare elite sportsmen and women for their very personal challenges, my focus is on mental agility, resilience and confidence. From this foundation, great things can happen!

It was great to work with Caroline on teasing out some of my long held views around my abilities, skills and experience. Whilst for me the most significant turn around was the increase in self belief, my promotion to Operations Director is also a tangible benefit of the results of working with Caroline. Adelle Smith,
Operations Director, Capquest Group

My work is guided by the principles of the GROW coaching model, a 4-step process that has been used extensively in both sport and business. I also draw on a range of other coaching methods as appropriate, using techniques that I feel will deliver rapid and lasting impact.

Hello!

We will begin with an initial chat – a getting to know you session – so that we can first establish whether we are a good ‘fit’, that we get along comfortably, and you feel we have the beginnings of a good working relationship built on trust and mutual respect.  We’ll spend time finding out more about you, your current needs, challenges and goals, and I will also outline how I see that we could work together.

If at that stage, you have reservations about our relationship, we need take it no further, and no hard feelings.

If you are happy to proceed, we will schedule an initial contracting meeting to formally agree our objectives for the coaching programme, and a timeframe that works for you.

A typical coaching programme

Each coaching programme is tailored to meet specific needs and goals, as set out in our initial meeting. Broadly therefore, you can expect a combination of 1.5 – 2 hour face to face sessions at 1-2 monthly intervals, supplemented with telephone and email contact in between as often as required.

We also assign relevant exercises and reading materials that fit with your development objectives for you to work on in between our sessions.

Following on from our initial contracting meeting, we will begin with our first face to face session. We will look more at the challenges you face in the context of your current work, unpick those issues and agree a priority of what type of coaching we need to begin first. We’ll reflect on where you are right now vs where you would like to be.

All of our sessions will have rigour and follow a structure, whilst allowing you to explore your thoughts, reflect on what is working and what isn’t, plus we’ll also make an honest assessment of your current skill sets, communication and management style.

The further 5 face to face sessions will take shape according to the outcomes from our first session, working on areas we mutually agree need focus. Each session is outcome oriented, working on personal awareness, skill improvements, challenging perceptions and clarifying perspectives.

Results

Rest assured that results are always positive, and coaching sessions often deliver additional, unexpected benefits that enhance your overall experience. The changes we make are long-lasting. Many of my coachees are still in touch today and tell me they are benefitting many years later from the skills they developed in our sessions together, skills that are now well established and proving integral to their career success.

I can honestly say that I’ve loved working with everyone I’ve had the privilege to coach. Seeing transformation happen before my eyes is what makes my work so rewarding.

If you are struggling, worrying, or perhaps feeling really ambitious right now, please get in touch to explore how coaching can move you on to a stronger position, with clarity, confidence and a positive mindset.
