What does a NED do?
Essentially the non-executive director (NED) role is to add a creative contribution to the board by providing independent oversight and constructive challenge to the executive directors.
It is widely accepted that NEDs have an important contribution to make to the correct running of an organisation and have the same legal duties, responsibilities and potential liabilities as the executives.
As a NED, you are appointed to bring impartiality, independence, wide experience, special knowledge and personal qualities to the board.
New to NED role
To help you prepare for this role, I will work with you to help you articulate your personal qualities and key strengths. We will develop the skills and confidence you need to be a critical, impartial yet supportive influence in the boardroom and I’ll help you adopt the right mindset for this role.
We will look at the behaviours and dynamics of a board and how you can provide strategic value and stay relevant. You will gain insight into the role of a NED, the responsibilities, boardroom dynamics and what is expected of you.
Stepping up can be daunting, but it needn’t be. Our sessions will ensure you are fully prepared for your role, and able to contribute with confidence and can look forward to this new challenge in your career.
Existing NED
I’m a real believer in continuous professional development, and in the power of coaching to enhance professional influence and add a positive impact in the role of NED.
We will look at how things are going for you right now, whether there are any areas of doubt or frustration, and examine which aspects might benefit from some work.
As a NED, clarity of mind and the ability to make decisions without being clouded or influenced by others is key. Our sessions will be guided by the issues or topics that you bring, so that you can reflect on how things are and explore best ways forward.
Coaching for a non-executive board role is usually completed in 3 sessions, though this is flexible according to your needs.
